Orthodox Lutheran Father Quote of the Day

Baruch conflicts with historical truth. In Baruch 1:11 the captive Jews are ordered to “pray for King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and for the life of his son Balthasar.” This, however, is not in harmony with sacred history. Nebuchadnezzar’s son who succeeded him to the throne is called Evil-merodach (2 Kings 25:27). But Balthasar was the last king of the Babylonians, whom the soldiers of Cyrus killed when the seventy years of the captivity had already elapsed (Dan 5:30).
