Modern Lutheran Quote of the Day

Here is what He read in the synagogue, what was fulfilled in their hearing:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)

This He does in perfect love. He submits to their hate. He lets them do their worse. He embraces the poverty of the poor as the captives drag Him into their captivity and the blind gouge out His eyes. He gives us His liberty for our oppression. He gives us life for murdering Him. All this He does to proclaim the good news, the year of the Lord’s favor, the jubilee of forgiveness, and thus the end of slavery to sin and death.
