Modern Lutheran Quote of the Day

This is off in several ways. It is true, in a sense, that Jesus didn’t quit. But He was absolutely everything that we despise. He wasn’t tough of strong. He didn’t overcome the devil by strength as men count strength. He wasn’t clever or impressive. He was disgusting, stricken, smitten, and afflicted. He was weak, beaten, defeated, dying. And when He is lifted up from the earth–in all the gore and pain, in all the things that we don’t aspire to be or want to be–there we see our God: the great I AM of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob–humiliated, defeated, dead.
