“But,” someone will interpose, “should a Christian not keep silence, show patience with humility, and also forgive the wrongs of those who hurt us?” I answer: Patience, humility, and all other obligations of love cease when I have to lose Him for whose sake I am suffering. When one has to lose God and deny His Word and the worship that is owed to God, one must have no patience. Here we must be steadfast and sure concerning the promise of God which pertains to us, lest we permit it to be taken away from us in any way.
